This article describes the steps to change the text cursor blink rate in Windows 11.

The text cursor is the vertical line at the end of words or sentences you type on your screen. By default, it blinks every 530 milliseconds.

If you find it difficult to see the cursor in a text field, you can make it blink faster or slower to make it easier to locate. Windows allows users to change the cursor blink rate via the Control Panel or Windows Registry Editor.

The cursor blink rate is how often the text cursor blinks.

Below is how to change the text cursor blink rate or disable it in Windows 11.

Change text cursor blink rate via the control panel

As described above, if you find it difficult to see the text cursor in a text editor or field, you can make it blink faster or slower to make it easier to locate.

Here’s how to do it.

First, launch the Control Panel app in Windows 11.

When the Control Panel app opens, select View by Icons to list individual icons for each setting; on the list, select Keyboard as highlighted below.

On the Speed tab in the Keyboard Properties window, under Character repeat, select the Cursor blink rate slider to adjust the text character cursor blink rate.

Move the slider to the left to slow the speed and to the right to increase the speed.

Click OK to apply.

Change keyboard text blink rate via Windows Registry Editor

Alternatively, users can use the Windows registry editor to change the keyboard cursor blink rate in Windows 11.

To do that, first, open the Windows Registry and navigate to the folder key path as listed below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

If you don’t see the Desktop folder key, right-click on the Control Panel parent key, then create the subkey (Desktop) folder.

Right-click on the Desktop folder key’s right pane and select New -> String Value. Type a new key named CursorBlinkRate.

Double-click the new value name (CursorBlinkRate) and enter the Value data in a number between 200 (faster) and 1200 (slower) milliseconds.

A Value data or -1 will disable the cursor blinking.

That should do it. Restart your computer for the changes to apply.
