This brief tutorial shows students and new users how to personalize or customize their Windows 10 lock screen.

Windows 10 comes with a feature called Windows Spotlight that shows beautiful photography from around the globe when your PC is locked.

Windows will allow you to customize the lock screen with your favorite photos or a slide show of selected images you want to display instead of randomly selecting photography from around the world.

Customizing the lock screen in Windows 10 allows you to add a personal touch to your computer and make it more visually appealing. It also allows you to display important information such as upcoming calendar events, social network updates, and other app notifications even when your PC is locked.

This can be especially useful for students and professionals who must stay organized and current with their schedules and tasks. Customizing the lock screen can help you quickly identify your computer in a shared workspace or office environment.

To get started with personalizing your lock screen, follow the steps below:

Change the lock screen background

To change your lock screen to your liking and customize where images are displayed, select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Personalization  > Lock screen

On the lock screen, you can change the background to a favorite photo or slide show of images you want to display.

You have three options to select from for images to display.

  • Windows spotlight: shows beautiful photography automatically on your lock screen. It updates daily with images from around the globe and shows tips and tricks for getting the most out of Windows.
  • Picture: shows images that are included with Windows as well as custom images you select to display.
  • Slideshow: shows album slideshows of your images to display on your lock screen.

By default, Windows Spotlight is chosen to display images on your lock screen. Spotlight images won’t display if your account doesn’t allow it or your PC is rebooted.

For the spotlight to show images, it must be turned on, and you need to be signed into Windows first.

Press the Windows logo key  + to lock your device to test whether the Windows spotlight works correctly. The Windows spotlight image should appear on the lock screen.

Troubleshoot

If you don’t see the Windows spotlight image when you sign in, select the Start button, then select Settings  > Personalization  > Lock screen. Then, ensure the Show lock screen picture on the sign-in screen is turned on.

That should do it!
